In the 1870s, cognac and brandy was imported from overseas. Popular brands included Jas. Hennessy's 3 Star Brandy at 9/- a bottle, Arbouin Marrett's, and Martell's Brandy at 6/3 a bottle. Flask brandy sold for 4/- a pint. French imports included Lecoq Freres' cognac and A. Yvon & Gaboriau's cognac.
